KUALA LUMPUR: Police have confirmed that Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) president Abdul Hadi Awang was present on Tuesday (Aug 30) to give his statement in relation to his remarks claiming that the majority of corruption is committed by non-Muslim and non-Bumiputera communities.

Without elaborating, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) corporate communication chief assistant commissioner of police (ACP) A Skandaguru stated that Abdul Hadi was present at Bukit Aman with his lawyer.

“Throughout the statement recording session, he was cooperative. The investigation is being carried out by the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT) “he said today in a statement.

According to Bernama, the police have opened an investigation against Abdul Hadi over his statement that non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras were believed to be the majority of those involved in corruption in the country.

“These groups that seek illicit gains… harm our politics because they are the root causes of corruption, and the majority of them are non-Muslims and non-Bumiputras,” Abdul Hadi said in a Facebook post on August 20.

According to A. Skandaguru, Abdul Hadi is being investigated under Section 505 (C) of the Penal Code for making statements likely to incite the community and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities or network services.

He also stated that 28 police reports have been filed in response to the remarks.

He had previously warned the public not to speculate or make statements that could jeopardize police investigations.

“The PDRM also urges the public to exercise greater caution when dealing with religious and racial issues that may jeopardize social harmony. Any party that jeopardizes public order and national security will face severe consequences “A. Skandaguru stated.
