NEW DELHI: India reported more than 300,000 new COVID-19 infections for the fourth day in a row, despite the caseload being marginally lower than the day before, according to government data issued on Sunday (Jan 23).

According to government estimates, India reported 333,533 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, including 525 deaths.

COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 489,409 people in India, according to the health ministry. India had reported 337,704 new cases of COVID-19 and 488 deaths as of Saturday.

According to the authorities, the recovery rate for afflicted patients is currently at 93.18 percent.

Different parts of the country have been under varying degrees of restrictions since the beginning of the year in order to contain infections caused by the highly transmissible Omicron strain.

Delhi, India’s capital, has imposed a weekend curfew, and despite widespread expectation that the city would relax certain restrictions, the local authorities decided to keep the curfew in place on Friday.

The federal government said it had tested 1.87 million people in the previous 24 hours and will continue to do so across the country.
