Dubai, UAE – Since it opened on October 1, 2021, more than 1.5 million people have visited the Indonesian Pavilion at the 2020 Dubai Expo.
According to Indonesian Consul General in Dubai, Kartika Candra Negara, the Indonesian Pavilion has 1,527,823 visitors as of March 10, 2022, accounting for 8–9% of all visitors at the expo, while hundreds of nations have put up their own pavilions.
The overall number of attendees to the exhibition has been estimated at 17 million.
“The Indonesian Pavilion is one of the independent pavilions that has captivated the curiosity of many people at the expo […] the figure has almost reached 9%; this is a big amount,” he said in an interview with ANTARA at the Indonesian Pavilion in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The number of visitors to the pavilion has fluctuated due to an increase in COVID-19 cases as a result of the Omicron epidemic, he explained.
“The dynamics are very intriguing because the exhibition is being conducted in the midst of the COVID outbreak, so the variation in the number of visitors is extremely visible,” he added.
Negara believes that, so far, the Indonesian Pavilion has succeeded in projecting a national brand that presents a sophisticated Indonesia to the international community while ignoring its rich history, particularly how the country became part of the global trade chain through the spice trade hundreds of years ago.
Furthermore, the Indonesian Pavilion has pushed the Indonesia 2045 vision as a picture of the future.
The pavilion’s elegant and modern exhibits are accompanied with Indonesian food and coffee, which guests may enjoy.
