Jakarta – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that as a sovereign state, Ukraine has the option of joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
“This is Ukraine’s option as a sovereign state,” the Ukrainian President told the Indonesian people on Friday via the FPCI virtual public forum.
He made the statement in reaction to a recent narrative claiming that Ukraine should be penalized for wanting to join NATO.
He stated that Ukraine has never been a member of any coalition. Ukraine’s quest to join the European Union is a decision made by the country as a sovereign state.
“Please believe me when I say that this was at the heart of Ukraine’s recent upheavals.” Some are wanted in Europe, but others are able to speak freely. “People have the right to travel to the European Union,” Zelenskyy remarked.
Russia does not want Ukraine to be free to depart because it does not believe Ukraine is a sovereign nation, he stressed.
In truth, the Ukrainian Constitution provides that the people have the right to choose their own political path.
