Jakarta – Bintang Puspayoga, Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, praised Indonesian Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo’s plan to promote women police officers to middle and high-ranking positions.

“We commend the police chief for upgrading several female police officers by bestowing higher ranks and crucial positions (for them) within the police institution,” Puspayoga said in a press statement issued here on Monday.

The minister stated that the police department remained committed to gender equality by promoting female officers.

“I applauded the police chief’s gender streamlining initiatives to achieve gender equality between men and women police personnel in the police’s organizational offices,” she said.

She also stated that Police Chief Regulation No. 1 of 2022 on Gender Streamlining within the Police Institution established a legal foundation for female officers to grow in their careers and reach equal status with other officers.

She stated that promotions in rank and office for female officers demonstrate that they are competent of carrying out tasks entrusted to them in the police force.

The minister then expressed hope that more women police officers will advance to higher levels and positions within the police force, especially given the rise in crimes against women and children, cybercrime, and terrorism.

“We hope more regional police chiefs, including strategic offices in regional police forces, would be occupied by women because I believe that women police officers’ competence, expertise, and leadership could fulfil tasks delegated to them according to their qualifications,” Puspayoga remarked.

Previously, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo appointed Brigadier General Juansih to the rank of two-star general, making her the sole female inspector general entered in the current rotation. She was also appointed to the level of senior officer for the Police Department’s Staff and Education and Training Institution Leaders School (Sespim Lemdiklat).

Senior Commissioner Nurul Azizah was also promoted by the police chief to head of the Public Relations Division’s public information department, making her the first woman to hold the role.

Aside from Juansih and Azizah, a female officer was elevated to Bukittinggi Police Chief, two female officers were promoted from adjunct senior commissioner to senior commissioner, and three female senior commissioners were promoted to high-ranking regional police positions.
