Saudi Arabia’s national basketball team was defeated by hosts Indonesia 80-45 on Tuesday night in the opening match of the FIBA Asia Cup 2022 in Jakarta.
The Saudi team is in Group A, which includes Australia and Jordan, in the 16-team event, which began on Tuesday and will end on July 24.
The Indonesian side led 44-30 at the break and maintained their lead throughout the game for a comfortable triumph at the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Palace.
Mohammed Al-Marwani led Saudi Arabia with 15 points, followed by Muthanna Al-Marwani with nine, Marzouk Al-Mawlid with eight, Ayman Bal and Fahad Al-Salik with five each, and Thamer Mohammed with four.
Two baskets each were scored by Ayoub Al-Hawsawi, Nasser Abu Jalas, Musab Kadi, and Ali Al-Shubaili.
Saudi Arabia will face Australia on Thursday before concluding their group round against Jordan on Saturday.
