KSA residents urged to respect sanctity of holy sites

RIYADH: Saudi residents were encouraged on Friday to protect the sanctity of the Kingdom’s sacred sites after a Saudi citizen was arrested on charges of illegally allowing a non-Muslim to enter Makkah.

Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, head of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, emphasized the importance of commitment and full compliance with the holy site norms and directions.

He said that the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques was a red line for the Kingdom, and that any transgression would not be accepted, regardless of the nationality of those engaged or the nature of their activity.

According to Makkah Police, a Saudi citizen has been submitted to the Public Prosecution for his role in allowing a non-Muslim journalist with US citizenship to enter Makkah “in an explicit breach of the laws that restrict admission to Makkah for non-Muslims.”

According to a police spokeswoman, foreign visitors to Saudi Arabia must respect and obey the country’s laws, especially when visiting the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.

Gil Tamary, chief foreign editor and analyst for Channel 13 News in Israel, is likely to be the US journalist who was in Jeddah last week covering US President Joe Biden’s visit. Tamary was shown in a 10-minute clip driving to Makkah and climbing Mount Arafat, a revered spot where Muslims gather during Hajj.

Esawi Freij, Israel’s minister of regional cooperation, called the study “dumb and destructive.” “It was irresponsible and detrimental to air this report merely for ratings,” he stated.
