HÀ NỘI — Vietnam will constantly support solidarity, friendship, and comprehensive, sustainable, and long-term cooperation with Cambodia as a priority in its foreign policy, said Minister of National Defense General Phan Văn Giang on Monday in Hà Ni.
Giang hosted a reception for an RCAF delegation led by Lt. Gen. Hun Manet, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the RCAF and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army.
According to the minister, the consolidation of bilateral connections is of particular strategic importance to each country’s development.
He stated that Vietnam will always cherish and remember Cambodia’s invaluable assistance throughout its previous war for national freedom, as well as the current cause of national construction and defense.
Giang also noted statements by senior Vietnamese and Cambodian authorities stressing the importance they have on maintaining and strengthening the traditional friendship between the two nations’ governments, people, and forces.
In the past, the two sides have collaborated to organize political and diplomatic events, such as President Nguyn Xuân Phc’s State-level visit to Cambodia and Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam An’s visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, among others.
The General praised the two armies’ cooperation outcomes, particularly border military zones, border guards, naval forces, and coast guards, in maintaining social security, safety, and order in border areas, COVID-19 prevention and control, and personnel training.
Giang urged Hun Manet to extend his greetings to Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Tea Banh, as well as his invitation to the Cambodian official to attend the international defense expo that Vietnam would organize later this year.
Hun Manet, for his part, urged that the two sides pursue long-term cooperation mechanisms such as border defense friendship exchanges, adding that significant potential for bilateral cooperation exists.
He also suggested that authorized agencies from both countries develop collaboration agreements and utilize their potential.
