Jakarta – Moeldoko, Chief of the Presidential Staff Office, has asked government departments and agencies to collaborate in order to prepare for the 2024 General Election and address any potential disruptions.
He made the comment online on Wednesday, during a conference in Bandung, West Java, convened by the Presidential Staff Office with the relevant ministries and institutions to prepare narratives and public communication strategies for the 2024 General Election.
“The General Election in 2024 is critical for everyone. I don’t want the problems that plagued the past election to reoccur. At the very least, we must be able to limit the likelihood of these disturbances if we are to be a developed nation, ensuring the appropriate execution of the democratic party.”
Moeldoko made the appeal in light of the controversy that erupted during the 2019 General Election, which ranged from election logistics not being delivered to the correct target, voter data not being up to date, leaving many people unable to exercise their right to vote, to the issue of election officers’ excessive workload.
Money politics, the propagation of hoaxes on social media, and demands to stop voting entirely were also prevalent at various political levels.
Collaboration among ministries and organizations is expected to aid them in assessing the threats that may impede the elections, which are held every five years, he noted.
“The election’s success is inextricably linked to the enhancement and consolidation of our democracy’s quality. This forum was established under the direction of the Presidential Staff Office as a way of dialogue with fellow government teams. By learning from prior election events, the purpose is to sketch out strategic issues and challenges for the 2024 General Election,” He stated.
The meeting on Wednesday was expected to result in the formation of a General Election task force as a forum for coordinated cross-ministerial work on strengthening public communication.
Moeldoko stated that he expects the task team to produce solutions and recommendations to numerous challenges surrounding the 2024 election.
Representatives from the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, the Home Affairs Ministry, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics Technology, and the Religious Affairs Ministry attended the meeting.
