NASA postpones launch of Artemis I moon mission for 2nd time

WASHINGTON — NASA postponed its latest attempt to launch the Artemis I mission to the moon on Saturday owing to a fuel leak, the second time in a week.

“The #Artemis I lunar mission has been postponed. Teams sought but failed to resolve an issue connected to a leak in the hardware transporting fuel into the rocket “On Saturday, the American space agency announced on Twitter.

According to the report, the leak “formed on the supply side of the 8-inch fast disconnect while attempting to transfer fuel to the rocket.”

It is the agency’s second postponement of the launch at the Kennedy Center in Florida. The first attempt earlier this week was called off owing to technical difficulties and inclement weather.

Artemis I have a 42-day unmanned mission to investigate the integration of NASA’s deep space exploration systems, which include the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.

The gigantic 322-foot (98-meter) rocket is NASA’s most powerful ever developed and the only one capable of launching a payload weighing more than 59,525 pounds (27,000 kilograms) into orbit.

The Artemis I mission is the first of three space flights in the United States Space Administration’s flagship space exploration project.

Artemis II and Artemis III will return humans to the moon, with the ultimate goal of conducting operations on Mars.
