MANILA — Hungary is inviting Filipinos to study nuclear engineering in order to help create future energy solutions for the Philippines.
During the 7th political discussions between the Philippines and Hungary this week in Budapest, authorities encouraged interested Filipinos to apply for a scholarship once it reopened.
“The Philippines thanked Hungary for continuing to provide educational opportunities for Filipino scholars to study in Hungarian universities through the Stipendium Hungaricum program, which annually allocates 35 slots for qualified Filipinos,” according to a September 30 Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) readout. “With a view to future energy solutions for the Philippines, Hungary encouraged Filipinos to study nuclear engineering through the scholarship program.”
The Hungarian scholarship application period closed in November 2021 for the Academic Year 2022-2023.
Aside from schooling, the potential of a bilateral labor agreement in response to the rapidly increasing number of Filipinos deployed to Hungary was also considered.
Furthermore, the two countries evaluated the status of pending agreements on financial cooperation and transportation, as well as exploring ways to expand the use of existing accords on agricultural and science and technology.
According to the DFA, the conference provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on regional concerns like as security in Southeast Asia, the South China Sea, and Europe.
The meeting was led by Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro and Hungary’s Deputy State Secretary for Development of Eastern Relations Adam Stifter on September 26.
They were joined by Philippine Ambassador to Hungary Frank Cimafranca and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Department of Fastest Growing Economies.
