Jakarta – On Monday, December 5, 2022, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will distribute aid to those affected by the recent 5.6-magnitude earthquake in West Java’s Cianjur area.

Insya Allah (God willing), Mr. President will provide assistance to rebuild homes that have been verified to be weakly, moderately, or significantly damaged, said Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy on Thursday in the grounds of the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

According to him, the initial round of presidential support will focus on 8,000 residences that had minor, major, or moderate damage.

He went on to say that he hoped the support would uplift the afflicted residents’ spirits.

“We hope that the citizens won’t feel as disheartened about the disaster if they personally receive support from Mr. President. So that people can swiftly get back to their normal lives, especially in the business area, “added said.

Before receiving the presidential help, the authorities must still verify at least 60 000 damaged homes. According to Effendy, participants in the verification would include officials from the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, higher education institutions, and village administrations.

In order to facilitate kids’ prompt return to school, the government will also restore any damaged public buildings, especially those that house schools.

At 1:21 pm local time on November 21, a 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit Cianjur region. It had a depth of 10 kilometers and was located 10 kilometers southwest of the district; it had no chance of causing a tsunami.

The National Disaster Mitigation Board (BNPB) reports that as of Tuesday (November 29), 327 people have perished in the earthquake and 108,720 more had been forced to leave their homes.

The search for earthquake casualties, which was scheduled to end on November 30, was postponed until December 3, according to Herman Suherman, the chairman of the Cianjur district.

Since 12 missing residents had still not been located, it was decided to continue the search.
