ALOR SETAR: According to Fadhlina Sidek, the Education Ministry will investigate why 14,858 first-time applicants were absent from their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2022 tests.
The minister stated that the absent applicants constituted 3.8% of the total 388,832 candidates, and that the ministry was investigating the best way to resolve the matter.
She stated that there could have been a variety of events and reasons that caused the pupils to skip their tests.
“The ministry is looking into the factors so that we can identify (the reasons) and stage the necessary intervention to ensure better attendance in the coming years,” Fadhlina explained.
She went on to say that she believes there are various things that could cause a candidate to miss the exams.
She told reporters on Sunday (June 11) at Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK) Keat Hwa in Jalan Kuala Kedah that a trend compared to the previous year can only be concluded once the findings are complete.
“There are several types of candidates, including those from Education Ministry schools, private candidates, and others.” As a result, we need a detailed dissection to figure out why this is happening,” she explained.
Fadhlina further stated that more than 90% of SPM candidates were eligible to receive their certificates, which is a greater rate than in prior years.
She then stated that the rankings of the top-performing schools for SPM 2022 were unnecessary.
According to reports, 14,858 or 3.8% of the 388,832 first-time candidates did not attend at least six subjects.
According to the ministry’s investigation, 10,681 candidates were absent for SPM 2021, accounting for 2.7% of the 392,837 registered candidates.
