Jakarta to implement remote learning during ASEAN Summit

Jakarta – Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono announced on Friday that the Jakarta province administration will deploy remote learning for students during the 43rd ASEAN Summit, which will take place from September 5-7, 2023, in order to alleviate traffic congestion.

The test will only be administered during the three-day forum and in schools near ASEAN Summit locations such as Thamrin, Sudirman, Tanah Abang, Kuningan, and Menteng.

Meanwhile, schools located distant from the ASEAN Summit venue, such as those in West and East Jakarta, will continue to conduct normal learning activities with full attendance.

Hartono stated that the Jakarta administration will not implement the remote learning policy for three months in order to reduce the city’s severe air pollution.

However, a remote work policy will be enforced for employees in order to reduce air pollution in the Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Tangerang-Bekasi (Jabodetabek) area, which has reached the very bad level in the last week.

Earlier, Sigit Wijatmoko, acting head of the Jakarta Communication, Information, and Statistics Agency, stated that the city will implement a remote working policy for 50% of its employees for two months, from August 21 to October 21.

Indonesia, as ASEAN chair, has invited 27 world leaders and international organizations to the bloc’s 43rd summit in Jakarta.

The summit will bring together not just ASEAN leaders, but also leaders from other countries such as China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the United States.
