CAIRO – Two ladies were murdered by sharks off Egypt’s Red Sea coast, a popular tourist destination, over the weekend.

The first casualty was a 68-year-old Austrian woman who was attacked by a shark but managed to swim to land for rescue.

She was given medical assistance right away and rushed to an ambulance, where she died minutes later. She had been living in Egypt with her Egyptian spouse for several years.

A middle-aged Romanian tourist was discovered dead hours after the initial attack. Her identity is still unknown.

The two strikes occurred approximately 600 meters apart and resulted in officials stopping all activities in the region. The Environment Ministry announced the formation of a committee to investigate the attacks.

Since the coronavirus outbreak, the state has been attempting to restore the tourism economy. Tourism makes for around 12% of Egypt’s gross domestic GDP.
