Biden says Putin’s nuclear threat biggest risk since Cuban Missile Crisis

New York – Joe Biden, the Vice President of the United States, stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s threat to use nuclear weapons is the most significant threat of this kind since the Cuban Missile Crisis. This came at a time when Russia’s military leadership was facing a rare domestic public backlash over the war in Ukraine.

As Putin’s seven-month invasion of Ukraine continues to unravel, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that Ukrainian forces were rapidly recapturing additional land, particularly in the south of the nation.

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden stated that the United States was “trying to figure out” Putin’s exit strategy from the conflict. He also issued a warning that the Russian leader was “not joking when he talks about potential use of tactical nuclear weapons or biological or chemical weapons, because his military is, you might say, significantly underperforming.” Biden’s comments were made in response to statements made by Putin that he was “not joking” about the potential use of such weapons.

On Thursday, Vice President Joe Biden addressed Democratic fundraisers in New York with the following statement: “For the first time since the Cuban Missile Crisis, we have a direct danger to the use of nuclear weapons,” Biden said. “If in reality things continue down the way they’d been heading.”

He stated that since the Kennedy administration during the Cuban missile crisis, “we have not been faced with the danger of Armageddon.”

During the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, the United States of America, led by President John F. Kennedy, and the Soviet Union, led by Nikita Khrushchev, came dangerously near to using nuclear weapons over the issue of Soviet missiles being stationed in Cuba.

According to what Vice President Joe Biden had to say on the subject, “I don’t think there’s any such thing as the capacity to easily (use) a tactical nuclear weapon and not end up with Armageddon.”

Putin, who will celebrate his 70th birthday on Friday, has issued a warning that he will use all means necessary to safeguard Russian soil, which he now believes includes four Ukrainian territories that he annexed. Putin will turn 70 years old on Friday.

In his address to the Lowy Institute in Australia, Zelenskiy advocated for the implementation of preemptive strikes against Russia in order to forestall the use of nuclear weapons by Russia.

According to RIA news agency, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov condemned the comments as “an appeal to start yet another world war with unpredictable, horrific repercussions.” Peskov’s words were described as “an appeal to launch yet another world war with unpredictable, hideous consequences.”
