Egypt is preparing to host an international summit aimed at addressing the intensifying conflict between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas in Gaza. Egyptian authorities have stated that the primary objective of the summit is to promote an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, responding to the extensive Palestinian casualties and injuries resulting from Israel’s ongoing bombardment, which has led to around 4,000 Palestinian deaths and over 13,000 injuries.

This hastily-convened summit will bring together leaders from both the international and regional communities. The discussions will focus on safeguarding civilians from the ongoing violence and seeking a just resolution to the Palestinian issue.

Egyptian President Abdelfattah El-Sisi initiated the summit as aid convoys remained stranded at the Rafah border crossing. An agreement was reached with Israel to permit 20 trucks of aid daily, addressing the diminishing medical and food supplies in Gaza, which has led to a worsening humanitarian crisis.

Regional leaders expected to attend the summit include Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Jordanian King Abdullah, Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah.

Additionally, several international figures will participate, such as Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa, and British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs James Cleverly.
