ISTANBUL, Turkey – Ime Udoka, head coach of the Boston Celtics, has been suspended for the 2022-23 season for “violations of team policies.”

“A decision on his future with the Celtics after this season will be made later.” The punishment is effective immediately, according to the National Basketball Association (NBA) team.

While the club would not provide any additional information, NBA source Shams Charania alleged that the Nigerian coach was in a consensual romantic relationship with a female employee.

Udoka began his coaching career as an assistant on Gregg Popovich’s staff with the San Antonio Spurs in 2012, where he won his first title in 2014.

He joined the Philadelphia 76ers in 2019 and spent two seasons there as well as with the Brooklyn Nets before taking over as head coach of the Celtics in 2021.

Udoka, 45, led Boston to their first NBA Finals appearance since 2010, where they were defeated by the Golden State Warriors.
