Flood: Major Improvement in Parts of Miri and Subis

Miri, Brunei – As of 5 p.m. yesterday, the flood situation in various localities and roads in Miri and Subis districts had greatly improved.

Captain (PA) Usman Harto, officer-in-charge of the Miri Civil Defence Force (APM), reported that floodwaters began rising at 6 a.m. on Saturday after heavy rain overnight.

Miri district affected districts included Kampung Sungai Dalam, Lambir; Kampung Tudan Desa Aras Phase 6; and Jalan Persisiran Pantai Lutong.

Rh Sumob Lidam Saeh, Niah; Rh Albion Ngumbang; Kampung Sebalik Tiris; Kampung Pintasan Tiris; and Kampung Nusah were among the Subis district’s areas.

“However, APM members’ inspections on Sunday (Aug 7) am discovered that the water condition in these locations had greatly improved.”

“Despite the overcast weather, the floodwater level in Miri district has entirely retreated,” he said, “while most of the affected regions in Subis district continue to see a reduction in the floodwater level to roughly half foot as of 5pm.”

Usman stated that no evacuation was required so far.

“Because of the unpredictable weather, we will continue to conduct periodic surveillance in these flood-prone areas,” he added.

Meanwhile, Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) acting chief Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee stated that Bomba teams from Miri Central and Batu Niah fire stations reported that the flood situation had improved in various flood-prone locations as of yesterday evening.

The Miri Central fire station team discovered no flooding on Jalan Miri- Pujut, Jalan Aiport Miri, Jalan Tanjung, Jalan Datuk Temenggong Lawai Jau, and Jalan Merbau, and traffic in these areas was under control.

Meanwhile, the Batu Niah fire station team discovered that the floodwaters had progressively retreated in numerous parts of Niah, including Jalan Sungai Saeh Merah, Jalan Sungai Saeh Putih, Rh Limbang Kanyan, Rh Ayai Sawing, and Rh Nelson Ningkan.
