MANILA – Palawan has been named the most attractive island in the world by the 21st Wanderlust Travel Award in the United Kingdom.
“The environment is breathtaking, with beautiful waters and white sand beaches. Kayangan, a beautiful freshwater lake with stunning rock formations above and below the surface, is one of the most photographed locations “Wanderlust penned.
“Elsewhere on the island, you may explore one of the world’s longest underground rivers, go twitching, or fuel up with some wonderful cuisine in Puerto Princesa, the island’s capital,” it continued.
The country also came sixth among hundreds of unique entries in the Wanderlust Sustainability Initiative Category for its Dive7 Program, via the Department of Tourism-Central Visayas Office.
The distinguished Wanderlust travel magazine, one of the United Kingdom’s longest running journals that has been at the forefront of sustainable travel for 29 years, presented the awards on November 9.
The award-giving committee also named Cebu as the Most Desirable Region (Rest of the World) this year.
“These prizes represent the ongoing attempts to revitalize the tourism industry, particularly in light of the Marcos administration’s emphasis on tourism development.” Rest confident that we will continue our objective to promote the Philippines and the Filipino brand around the world, as well as to preserve the long-term viability of our islands,” stated Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco.
Frasco headed the Philippine team to the recent World Travel Market in London.
Conde Nast Travel named the Philippines to its list of the 40 Most Beautiful Countries in the World in June of this year, citing the remarkable cave system of the Puerto Princesa Underground River, the mysteriously uniform Chocolate Hills of Bohol, and the panoramic views of the Banaue and Cordilleras Rice Terraces.
The following month, the prestigious Travel + Leisure magazine selected the country’s tourism hotspots Boracay, Palawan, and Cebu to its list of the 25 Best Islands in the World.
Foreign visitors have been visiting the Philippines since February 2022, with over 1.9 million visiting as of this writing.
TIME Magazine named Boracay one of the 50 World’s Greatest Places to Visit in 2022.
