XINHUA, KAMPONG CHAM – Following recent tragic shootings in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen (shown below) ordered officials to step up border security Wednesday.
Hun Sen said told a gathering of 18,000 manufacturing employees here that on June 11, an armed gang attacked two commune headquarters in Vietnam’s Dak Lak province’s Cu Kuin district, killing numerous communal officials and police.
“Now, the members of this armed gang are on the run, and I’m concerned that they might flee to Cambodia,” he stated.
He directed Cambodian armed forces in the provinces of Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, and Kratie to boost collaboration with the Vietnamese side in order to prevent the fugitives from crossing the border illegally.
The prime minister also stated that fugitives who fled to Cambodia would be apprehended and returned to Vietnam if they were discovered.
He also threatened to close down any international organizations in Cambodia that helped the fugitives.
