MANILA, Philippines — Last September 14, the Itbayat Garlic Producers Association from Batanes transported 600 kg of garlic to the DA Kadiwa Center in Quezon City with the help of the Department of Agriculture (DA) and its Kadiwa vehicle.
The DA-Regional Field Office (RFO) in Cagayan Valley helped Itbayat farmers transport their produce from Pangasinan’s Sual Port to Metro Manila.
The institutional buyers picked up the PHP78,000 worth of garlic they ordered through the DA-Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service the next day (AMAS).
From February to July 2022, the DA-AMAS also aided several farmer cooperatives and groups in delivering 691.95 kg of garlic for PHP72,786.
In the fourth quarter of 2021, the Itbayat Garlic Producers Association of Itbayat, Batanes will receive an Enhanced Kadiwa Financial Grant (trading/working capital) of PHP500,000.
DA-AMAS provides market intelligence, market linkage and product promotion, agribusiness promotion, and agribusiness development services to interested producers’ groups, buyers, and partners.
