MANILA, Philippines — President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s team declared victory in the 2022 presidential elections on Wednesday, stating the Filipino people “have spoken decisively.”
Atty. Victor Rodriguez, Marcos’ spokesperson, said the landslide presidential election victory is a victory for all Filipinos and democracy, and that the former senator will be a “President for all Filipinos.”
“The Filipino people have spoken clearly,” Rodriguez said in a statement, “with 98 percent of the votes tabulated and an unassailable lead of over 16 million votes.”
Marcos will be the Philippines’ 17th President.
According to Rodriguez, Marcos is eager to cooperate across the country with international partners and organizations to address crucial challenges and “starting delivering for the Filipino people.”
“He says to the world: Judge me not by my ancestors, but by my actions,” Rodriguez explained.
Marcos campaigned on a platform of “unity,” promising economic recovery from the ravages of the coronavirus disease outbreak.
Based on the 98.26 percent of election results processed, the partial and unofficial tally in the presidential contest continuously shows Marcos with more than 31 million votes, more than doubling the lead over closest rival Vice President Leni Robredo with 14.8 million.
