KUCHING (June 21) – A male pick-up truck driver died today after colliding with a vehicle at Kampung Kelaoh on Jalan Bau-Lundu around 12 p.m.
The deceased, identified as Azirul Shamsul Tahir, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Lundu Hospital, according to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
Azirul’s body had to be extracted from the pick-up vehicle using rescue tools.
According to Bomba, the 27-year-old van driver was able to depart his vehicle with minor injuries ahead to their arrival at the scene.
Azirul’s body has already been turned over to police for further investigation.
Bomba then cleaned up the oil spill and road debris until the road was entirely safe before ending up their work.
Meanwhile, Lundu police commander DSP Damataries Lautin stated that Azirul was driving towards Lundu from Bau when he collided head-on with the vehicle heading from the opposite direction.
He was pinned inside the pick-up truck as a result of the incident and had to be extricated by Bomba, Damataries added.
“Investigations revealed that the accident occurred on a two-lane road, and that the weather was also fine at the time of the incident,” he explained.
Section 41 of the Road Transport Act of 1987 is now being used to examine the matter.
