VILNIUS – US President Joe Biden voiced optimism on Wednesday that the US will be able to sell F-16 fighter jets to Turkiye.
As he was leaving the NATO meeting in Lithuania, Biden made the remark to reporters.
Turkiye, which had been the biggest impediment to Sweden’s entry into NATO, has been looking to purchase F-16 fighter aeroplanes as well as modification kits for its existing warplanes.
Following meetings with Biden on Tuesday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan claimed he was “more hopeful than ever” that the US would sell F-16 fighter fighters to Turkey.
In consultation with Congress, Biden’s administration will proceed with the delivery of F-16 fighter fighters to Turkiye, national security advisor Jake Sullivan said on Tuesday, a day after Ankara approved Sweden’s membership in NATO.
