RI President points to global food supply disruption, advises caution

Jakarta, Indonesia – During a meeting with volunteers in Jakarta on Saturday, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) underlined the present disruption in the global food supply chain.

“Be wary when it comes to food production and food affairs. Only three countries ceased exporting food in January, but the number has since risen to 22 “he said at the Econvention Ancol in North Jakarta with his Team Seven Volunteers.

Tens of countries have ceased exporting food in order to meet domestic demand, according to the President.

India is one of the countries that has halted wheat exports in order to preserve domestic requirements and prevent food-induced inflation, he said.

The countries have halted food shipments at a time when the globe is suffering a food scarcity, such as wheat, due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the world’s two largest wheat producers.

As a result, Indonesia, which continues to import a variety of foodstuffs such as wheat, corn, and soybean, must stay concerned about the state of the global food supply chain, he said.

He stated that Indonesia should thank God because it has not imported rice in the last three years.
