Riyadh received congratulations from Russian President Vladimir Putin for securing the bid to host the World Expo 2030. Saudi Arabia won the bid with 119 out of 165 votes, surpassing competitors South Korea and Italy, as decided by the member-states of the Bureau International des Expositions in Paris.
Following Putin’s visit to Saudi Arabia, discussions between the Russian President and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman highlighted their countries’ historical ties, strategic relations, and the current global and regional situations.
Emphasizing mutual and joint investments, the leaders aimed to promote private sector involvement, facilitate reciprocal visits, organize joint investment forums, improve investment environments, resolve associated challenges, and boost cooperation in various sectors such as oil, gas, environment, technology, digital economy, space, and sustainable tourism.
Both leaders praised the effective collaboration within OPEC+ that contributed to stabilizing global oil markets. They underscored the importance of continued cooperation within OPEC+ among participating countries to serve the interests of both producers and consumers while supporting global economic growth.
The leaders expressed deep concern about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, advocating for a halt to military operations in Palestine and the protection of civilians. They highlighted the significance of implementing international resolutions for a two-state solution in Palestine, aiming to create conditions for peaceful coexistence, economic development, and the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Before visiting Saudi Arabia, Putin traveled to the UAE, where he was welcomed by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan at Qasr Al-Watan Palace in Abu Dhabi.
