UNITED NATIONS – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged Israel on Monday to halt and reverse what he called worrying and alarming choices on settlement development in the occupied West Bank, according to a UN spokesperson.
“The Secretary-General emphasises that settlements are a clear violation of international law.” They are a fundamental impediment to the realisation of a sustainable two-state solution and a just, enduring, and comprehensive peace,” said Farhan Haq, deputy UN spokesperson.
“The expansion of these illegal settlements is a significant driver of tensions and violence, and it deepens humanitarian needs,” Haq added.
