DUBAI: Yemen’s Presidential Council member Abdullah al-Alimi has warned that the Houthi militia’s mobilization, regrouping, and repeated violations of the UN truce continue to jeopardize the peace process.

The remarks were made when al-Alimi met with Stephen Fagin, the US Ambassador to Yemen, according to state news agency SABA on Thursday.

According to Al-Alimi, the Houthi militia must respect its vow by removing the blockade on Taiz, opening roadways in and out of the city, and allowing Yemenis to travel freely and safely around the country.

Fagin acknowledged that the Houthis’ commitment to the UN truce is critical, and he reaffirmed the US’ ongoing support for Yemen’s internationally recognized government by assisting it in carrying out its responsibilities.

Meanwhile, al-Alimi stated that the Presidential Leadership Council has a clear work plan in place to address difficulties in the economic, service, security, and military sectors, as well as battling terrorism in the country.

They also discussed strategies to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

During their discussion, Al-Alimi and Fagin discussed subjects of mutual interest, such as regional security and the most recent counter-terrorism tactics.

Al-Alimi applauded the United States’ efforts to support the Yemen truce and its constructive response to the country’s humanitarian catastrophe.

Fagin also complimented the Presidential Leadership Council and the administration for strengthening the humanitarian truce and supporting all efforts to achieve peace in Yemen.
