Jakarta – Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan, who was recently appointed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) during the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet’s third reshuffle, voiced optimism in resolving existing challenges with cooking oil distribution and price control.
“I believe my background and experience will undoubtedly help a lot in the future to immediately tackle the (issue of) availability of cooking oil anyplace at a cheap price,” Hasan told reporters after the inauguration at Jakarta’s State Palace on Wednesday.
The National Mandate Party (PAN) chairman also praised his predecessor, Muhammad Lutfi, as well as Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, who he said worked tirelessly to resolve the issue.
Hasan stated willingness to work with the ranks at the Ministry of Trade to continue efforts to address the issue of cooking oil availability and price regulation.
“We would collaborate to fix the cooking oil issue, which was our top priority. Everyone would be involved. We can’t do it alone. This is a significant task “He was emphatic.
In response to a question about how long it would take him to handle the issue of cooking oil availability and price in the market, Hasan said he would wait until the transfer procedure at the Ministry of Trade was completed before speaking further.
Hasan stated that one way to accomplish this would be to distribute cooking oil to the general public in simple packaging.
“That was my suggestion a month ago. I met some people who said that the cooking oil distribution with tank would impede the procedure and cause leaks. However, if we employed simple packaging, we could reach a wider geographical distribution. Furthermore, we would endeavor to improve the distribution of cooking oil,” He finished.
