Black object, believed to be rocket fragment, found in Malaysia

The object, which was discovered buried approximately half a meter in the earth, is thought to be wreckage from China’s Long March 5B rocket, which crashed back to Earth on July 31.

PETALING JAYA, Malaysia – Following the “meteor shower” over Sarawak, residents of Batu Niah in the state were surprised to discover an alien object that had fallen near their homes.

The dark object, which was discovered buried about half a meter in the earth, is thought to be wreckage from China’s Long March 5B rocket, which crashed back to Earth on Sunday.

The majority of the rocket was destroyed during re-entry.

Due to radiation concerns, two families have been ordered to abandon their homes.

Local locals reported the presence of an unidentifiable black object at Lot 65, Pekan Sepupok Lama, Niah.

The Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Department dispatched an operating team to the scene immediately after receiving an emergency call at 6 p.m.

“The operation team discovered the black object buried around half a metre in the earth and photographs were taken for subsequent action,” a department staff member told Astro Awani.

Earlier, social media was buzzing with videos and photos of a brilliant object, similar to a meteor, in Sarawak’s airspace, particularly in the Kuching area.

Alexson, Miri, OCPD Asst Comm According to Naga Chabu, the fragment was discovered by a Batu Niah resident who filed a report.

He warned the people to avoid the area in case the metal fragment contained radioactive materials.
