KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has scheduled a hearing on former Sabah Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Peter Anthony’s appeal to overturn his conviction and three-year jail sentence, as well as an RM50,000 fine, for using forged documents on January 27, next year.
S. Devanandan, Peter’s counsel, stated that the date was established by assistant registrar Nurul Ain Hamzah during today’s case management, which was attended by deputy public prosecutor Haresh Prakash Somiah.
“The appeal hearing will take place physically at 9 a.m. in front of High Court judge Justice Colin Lawrence Sequerah, and both the defense and prosecution are requested to provide written comments by or before January 13, 2023,” he stated when reached.
Meanwhile, the prosecution’s appeal against Sessions Court judge Azura Alwi’s granting of Peter’s plea to delay his sentence and conviction will be considered by High Court judge Justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan this Wednesday (Nov 16).
After being found guilty of forging a letter relating to a service and maintenance contract in 2014, Azura sentenced Peter to three years in prison and fined him RM50,000 or 15 months in jail on May 26.
