CAIRO – In a significant diplomatic move, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi welcomed General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan, at Cairo International Airport on Thursday. The leaders engaged in an official reception ceremony at Al-Ittihadiya Palace, emphasizing the historic ties between the two nations.

During the meeting, discussions revolved around recent developments in Sudan, with a primary focus on resolving the ongoing crisis in the country. Both leaders expressed their commitment to restoring stability in Sudan while safeguarding its sovereignty, unity, and institutional cohesion.

Ahmed Fahmy, the presidential spokesman, highlighted El-Sisi’s emphasis on the robust historical relations between Egypt and Sudan. The President affirmed Egypt’s unwavering support in enhancing cooperation and ensuring the security of Sudan. El-Sisi pledged full support for Sudan’s political, security, and economic stability, emphasizing the importance of resolving conflicts and maintaining national unity.

President El-Sisi underscored Egypt’s continued role in alleviating the humanitarian impact of the crisis in Sudan, reflecting the deep ties between the two nations. Al-Burhan, in turn, expressed appreciation for Egypt’s support and acknowledged the enduring friendship between the countries.

The leaders also delved into regional issues, specifically addressing the situation in Gaza. El-Sisi and Al-Burhan jointly called for an immediate ceasefire and stressed the urgent need for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza. They agreed to ongoing consultations and coordination to benefit the populations of both Egypt and Sudan.

This meeting builds upon the Sudanese leader’s official visit to Egypt in August of the previous year, where discussions were held in the city of Alamein. The continued collaboration between Egypt and Sudan underscores their shared commitment to regional stability and cooperation amid challenging circumstances.
