G20 Empower expected to push women to assume leadership roles

Jakarta – The G20 Empower issue notes on women’s leadership are likely to drive women even farther into executive positions, according to a Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry official.

“The first issue point concerns accountability to implement KPI (key performance indicators),” said Eko Novi Ariyanti in a G20 news release published here on Thursday.

“This issue note examines the number of women on corporate boards of directors and technical roles.” As a result, the policies they implement will have an impact on women and disadvantaged groups at the grassroots level,” she noted.

The G20 is an international group of 19 countries that collaborate to address key challenges. This year, Indonesia holds the grouping’s president.

The G20 Empower is a forum partnership comprised of the government and the corporate sector that intends to accelerate women’s leadership and empowerment in G20 countries.

According to Ariyanti, some Indonesian corporations have taken efforts to increase the capacity of female workers. As a result, they have access to managerial leadership positions.

G20 Empower’s second issue note encourages corporations to promote women who manage small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through their policies.

This is because female-led SMEs can propel a country’s economic progress.

The second issue point was only raised during Indonesia’s presidency since the government recognizes the importance of women in SMEs to the economy, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, she noted.

The G20 countries reacted favorably to the issue note, she added.

In the third issue note, G20 Empower also emphasized future economic preparation by strengthening women’s skills and digital capabilities.

“On the one side, we also encourage companies that are quote unquote male dominant to continue to create possibilities for women to acquire technical training,” Ariyanti said.
