Indonesia to export chickens to Singapore ‘really soon’: Agriculture ministry

JAKARTA: In answer to CNA’s questions on Wednesday, Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture stated that Indonesian companies will begin exporting chicken products to Singapore “very soon” (Jul 6).

Simultaneously, the ministry stated that it is collaborating with additional enterprises to seek license to export chicken products to the neighboring countries.

This follows Singapore’s announcement on June 30 that it has added Indonesia as a new supplier for chilled, frozen, and processed chicken imports.

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has granted license to three Indonesian companies to export chicken meat and chicken meat products into the country.

Two of the companies are Indonesian subsidiaries of Thailand-based food conglomerate Charoen Pokphand, while the third is an Indonesian subsidiary of Indonesian frozen food conglomerate Japfa Comfeed.

According to Mdm Tri Mela Sari of Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture, the three approved enterprises have yet to sell their products to Singapore.

“How soon these enterprises can begin exporting hens to Singapore will be determined by B2B (business-to-business) agreements between Indonesian and Singaporean counterparts.” “How much (chicken meat) will be exported will also be determined by B2B talks,” she explained.

“We will begin exporting very soon.” We will notify you once (the transaction) is completed.”

According to the ministry’s director of animal product processing and marketing, 12 other Indonesian enterprises are now requesting approval to export chicken goods to Singapore. The SFA has received all of the applications.
