Jakarta – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia has extended an invitation to Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to visit Malaysia in order to further bilateral relations.

Anwar informed his Indonesian counterpart at a joint press conference on Monday at the Bogor Palace in West Java, as seen on YouTube by the Presidential Secretariat.

The prime minister stated that he has been informed that the Indonesian and Malaysian governments’ current negotiations over memoranda of understanding (MoU) on bilateral cooperation are not complicated and might be finished shortly.

Yet, he remarked, “it will need a firm determination,” and “God Willing,” he would discuss the matter with his ministers if you visited Malaysia soon.

After being sworn in as Malaysia’s prime minister on November 24th, Anwar’s first international trip was to Indonesia, which he deemed to be a wise choice.

During his earlier remarks, President Jokowi mentioned that he and Anwar had agreed to several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on the countries’ land borders.

MoU on land border in Sebatik and Sinapad-Sesai sectors could be signed this year, he said.

Jokowi predicted that by 2023, a deal would be reached regarding maritime affairs in the southern part of the Malacca Strait and the Sulawesi Sea.

At 10 a.m. local time (UTC +7), the Malaysian prime minister arrived at Bogor Palace. President Jokowi extended an invitation to the Bogor Botanical Garden to Anwar upon his arrival.

Both presidents also watched Malaysian businesspeople signing a letter of intent (LoI) to invest in the growth of the new capital of Nusantara. Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, the Malaysian minister of international trade and industry, presented Bambang Susantono, the head of the Nusantara Capital Authority, with the LoI.
