ICMI Muda started a strategic silaturahim roadshow to a number of Islamic mass organizations related to the idea of the struggle to realize people’s leadership for the nation through the ‘2024 Presidential Election, Duet NU-Muhammadiyah’ movement.
Located at the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership (PP) office in the Menteng area of Jakarta, June 28, 2022 at noon, Dr. Faiz Rafdli representing PP Muhammadiyah officially received the visit of ICMI Muda. Dr. Faiz was accompanied by the Chairman of PP Pemuda Muhammadiyah, Secretary of PP Nasyiatul Aisyiyah, and elements of the IMM leadership.
After listening to the explanation from ICMI Muda and having a dialogue for almost two hours, Dr. Faiz emphasized Muhammadiyah’s positive appreciation for the idea and initiation of the ‘Presidential Election 2024, Duet NU-Muhammadiyah’ movement carried by ICMI Muda.
“Will this be a serious study, brought to Tanwir, or to the Muhammadiyah Muktamar, wallahu a’lam. We don’t want to get ahead. But once again, we appreciate what ICMI Muda has done. I think this actually predates the others,” concluded Dr Faiz.
‘PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION 2024, NU-MUHAMMADIYAH DUET’ MOVEMENT
Chairman of the Board of Istiqamah ICMI Muda AM Iqbal Parewangi, accompanied by the Chairman of the Presidium Dr. Tumpal Panggabean, Secretary of the Board of Istiqamah Dhanny Damanik, and a number of elements of the Central Leadership of ICMI Muda arrived at the PP Muhammadiyah office at exactly 13.00 WIB. The arrival of the group was immediately warmly welcomed by the ranks of PP Muhammadiyah.
Starting the meeting, Dr. Faiz invited ICMI Muda to convey the purpose and purpose of his arrival.
In front of the PP Muhammadiyah management, AM Iqbal Parewangi explained the importance of the struggle to realize people’s leadership for the nation, including through the ‘2024 Presidential Election, Duet NU-Muhammadiyah’ movement.
Iqbal gave an example of how it would impact if the national leadership did not side with the people and the nation.
“We know that 5 percent of secondary schools in Indonesia belong to Muhammadiyah. Even Muhammadiyah universities are more numerous than state universities. That’s a great contribution. But from the education budget of 169 trillion rupiah in the 2022 state budget, for example, how much is dripping into Muhammadiyah schools? It’s too small, even if there is one,” Iqbal explained.
why? The issue of such education, Iqbal continued, rests primarily on the national leadership in the field of education which is like not on the side of the people and means the majority of this nation. Worse still, leadership problems do not only occur in education, but also in various other fields.
“The solution, it is necessary to reconstruct the awareness of national leadership. Obviously, according to our ijtihad siyasah at ICMI Muda, it is necessary to perform a duet of NU and Muhammadiyah leading this nation. And for this reason, ICMI Muda initiated a movement that we call the ‘2024 Presidential Election, DUET NU-Muhammadiyah’,” explained Iqbal Parewangi.
Not to forget the Chairman of the Palemen Cooperation Agency of the DPD RI 2014-2019 also reminded the statistical figures of public surveys, that around 54 percent of voters in Indonesia are affiliated with NU and Muhammadiyah.
POSITIVE APPRECIATION FROM PP MUHAMMADIYAH
Welcoming the idea of ‘Presidential Election 2024, Duet NU-Muhamadiyah’ from ICMI Muda, Dr. Faiz Rafdli expressed his positive appreciation for Muhammadiyah and stated that he would bring the message of ICMI Muda to the highest leadership of PP Muhammadiyah.
“Muslims today including Islamic Mass Organizations in it feel the same nation’s problems. It just so happens that today ICMI Muda started to build this movement of purity. Of course, PP Muhammadiyah welcomes the efforts of this keummatan movement. PP Muhammadiyah will carry the message of ICMI Muda and hopes to be discussed in the Muktamar agenda and even become a recommendation of the Muktamar if possible,” said Dr Faiz.
“But this needs serious review. Nevertheless, political talk of 2024 is all very likely. Including the Muhammadiyah-NU duet,” he added.
Dr. Faiz added that PP Muhammadiyah is very interested in the 2024 Presidential Election, certainly not in a certain name or figure, but rather in the values of leadership, namely baldatun toyyibatun wa robbun ghofur.
“Currently, Muhammadiyah is also reviewing these values, including reviewing the opportunity to reconsider the direct election system. It also reviews the institution that has the highest power today, namely the Constitutional Court,” added Dr Faiz.
Dr. Faiz on the occasion also explained Muhammadiyah’s attitude in politics in Indonesia.
“Muhammadiyah is wasatiyah, Muhamamdiyah is the home of the nation, Muhamamdiyah is relatively in the middle and is not tempted to the right to the left and continues to consistently guard it. And this is not easy, it is important for Muhammadiyah. Muhammadiyah is consistent with not being tempted by practical politics,” Dr Faiz said.
After a dialogue for almost two hours, Dr Faiz reiterated Muhammadiyah’s positive appreciation for the idea and initiation of the ‘Presidential Election 2024, Duet NU-Muhammadiyah’ movement carried by ICMI Muda.

BUILD COLLABORATIONS
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Presidium of ICMI Muda, Dr. Tumpal Panggabean also hopes that there will be a collaboration between ICMI Muda and major Islamic Organizations such as PP Muhamamdiyah to unite to build a political movement.
“Our agenda is the same. What we have done and fought for is the same. It’s just that the movement has not been carried out jointly in building a political movement,” explained Tumpal Panggabean.
Finally, Dr. Faiz hopes that PP Muhammadiyah can collaborate with ICMI Muda, especially in studying values related to answering the nation’s problems. Both in leadership, political education, and this can be done through collaborative studies that can involve campuses in Indonesia with Muhammadiyah.
The strategic silaturahim meeting was then closed by giving souvenirs from PP Muhamamdiyah to ICMI Muda and followed by a group photo session and press conference.
