President Jokowi inaugurates Pidekso Dam in Wonogiri

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the Pidekso Dam located in Pidekso Village, Giriwoyo Subdistrict, Wonogiri Regency, Central Java (Jateng), Tuesday (12/28/2021) afternoon.

In his speech, President Jokowi said the dam has a capacity of 25 million cubic meters with a puddle area of 232 hectares.

“This can irrigate approximately 1,500 hectares of rice fields in Wonogiri Regency,” said President Jokowi.

The Head of State emphasized that the existence of the irrigation system is the key to realizing food security in Indonesia.

“If we want food independence to be achieved, food sovereignty achieved, food security to be achieved, reservoirs are key, water is key. Therefore, we build reservoirs throughout the provinces in our homeland,” he said.

Pidekso Dam was built with a total budget of Rp772 billion. The process of land acquisition for its construction began in 2014 while construction was carried out since 2017.

Also accompanying the President in the inauguration of this dam included Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono, Governor of Jateng Ganjar Pranowo, and Regent Wonogiri Joko Sutopo. (*)
