President Jokowi visits former Muhammadiyah chief

Yogyakarta – On Saturday, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) paid a visit to former Muhammadiyah Islamic group president Ahmad Syafii Maarif at his house in Sleman District, Yogyakarta Special Province.

At 11:26 a.m. local time, the head of state arrived at the home of Buya Syafii, the former Muhammadiyah chief. When he arrived, he was met by Muhammadiyah Chairman Haedar Nashir.

“I went to Buya Syafii Maarif this afternoon. He is in good health, Alhamdulliah (thank God). I heard he was in the hospital a few days, a few weeks ago,” in an official statement received in Jakarta on Saturday, the president stated.

Buya Syafii had previously been hospitalized to the PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital in Gamping, Sleman, for a medical condition.

The president was relieved to learn that Buya Syafii’s health was improving.

The president urged everyone in the community to pray for Buya Safii’s health.

Nashir, speaking on behalf of the Muhammadiyah extended family, expressed thanks for the president’s visit to check on Buya Syafii’s health.

“I represent Muhammadiyah and members of the Muhammadiyah extended family, wherever they may be, to offer our heartfelt thanks to Mr. President, who has spent time visiting Buya amidst his demanding schedule,” Nashir said.

The president was joined by Minister/State Secretary Pratikno during his visit.
