JERUSALEM – The Palestinian health ministry announced early Sunday that two Palestinians were killed overnight during an Israeli army operation in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus.

According to the ministry, Muhamad Azizi, 25, was murdered by a bullet to the chest, while Abdul Rahman Jamal Suleiman Sobh, 28, was slain by a bullet to the head.

Six people were injured, with two in critical condition, according to the report.

The Israeli army stated it was conducting an operation in Nablus, in the occupied West Bank, but made no immediate comment on the Palestinian report of injuries.

According to a statement, there were exchanges of fire between armed suspects and troops.

Since late March, at least 52 Palestinians have been slain, predominantly in the West Bank, including suspected terrorists and civilians, including Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, a Palestinian-American dual national who was covering an Israeli operation in Jenin.

Following a string of incidents in Israel in recent months, Israeli security forces have begun nearly daily raids in the West Bank.

During the same time period, 19 individuals were slain, the bulk of them were Israeli citizens inside Israel, primarily in Palestinian attacks. Three more Israeli Arab attackers were also murdered.
