Youth Pledge becomes guide for Indonesian nation: Jokowi

  • Share

Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) declared that the 94th anniversary of Youth Pledge Day in 2022 will serve as a guide for the Indonesian people today.

“The oath spoken by our young fighters 94 years ago still resonates and serves as a guidance for the Indonesian people today,” Jokowi stated on Friday on the official Instagram account @jokowi, which was monitored in Jakarta.

The president stated that the expansion of physical and digital connectivity across many regions is part of the nation’s efforts to build unity and progress.

“Our objective now is to further deepen national unity while pursuing progress by developing physical and digital connection that connects regions to regions, islands to islands, end to end of Indonesia,” he said.

The Youth Pledge was the resolution of the second Youth Congress, which was held on October 27-28, 1928, in Batavia, Indonesia. The Indonesian Student Association (PPPI), a youth organization comprised of students from all around Indonesia, hosted the congress.

The congress’s resolution on the Youth Pledge endorsed the ideals of the Indonesian homeland, the Indonesian nation, and the Indonesian language.

This resolution is expected to serve as the foundation for every Indonesian national association, and it will be published in various publications and spoken aloud at association meetings. As a result, the Youth Pledge is one of the pivotal moments in the history of Indonesia’s independence campaign.

An official previously stated that the 94th anniversary of Youth Pledge Day in 2022 is a momentum to renew the spirit of the dedication to unity in diversity.

“We must live the spirit and dedication to unity in diversity, and young people may play an optimal role in establishing the commitment to unify to create the nation,” Asrorun Ni’am Sholeh, the ministry’s deputy of youth development, said here on Wednesday.

The Youth Pledge Day commemoration Summit will be place on October 28, 2022, in the new capital Nusantara (IKN), Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan, with the subject “Bersatu Bangun Bangsa,” or “United to Build the Nation.”

Sholeh believes that all parties must work together to establish a nation. Not only young people, but all segments of society, he stressed, must work together to accomplish the nation’s aspirations.

“Everyone has a role to create the nation; we must foster youth pledge commitment in the life of the nation and state; there must be collective consciousness,” he stated.

A youth camp, mass gymnastics, and a parade would be staged at the Summit of the 2022 Youth Pledge Day, he said.

“We must help young people who are innovative and creative to succeed,” Sholeh remarked.
