G20 Summit becomes start for tourism revival: Minister Uno

Badung, Bali – Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno believes that the G20 Summit’s series of events will revitalize Indonesia’s tourism sector, including Bali Island.

“We see that this is not only the beginning of our revival, but also the formula for a more inclusive revival in the future,” he said in a Thursday interview with ANTARA.

The G20 is an international forum made up of 19 countries and the European Union that collaborate to address major issues. This year, Indonesia holds the grouping’s presidency. On November 15-16, 2022, the G20 Summit will be held in Bali.

Uno expressed confidence that the G20 Summit would boost Bali’s tourism industry’s revenue.

The government, according to the minister, expects significant growth in Bali’s tourism sector this year.

“This year, we can target Bali’s growth to be in the top five nationally, with a goal of reaching five to six percent,” he said.

Uno stated that by the third quarter of 2022, Bali’s tourism sector had grown significantly. In the third quarter of 2022, the province’s economic growth rate was also 8.1 percent.

He confirmed that the three supporting sectors of transportation, lodging, and service were driving growth.

According to Uno, Indonesia’s tourism index has risen by 12 positions in the last 18 months, surpassing Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam to rank 32nd out of 117 countries in the 2021 Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI).

“It happened because of our policies, which prioritize inclusive revival and the preparation of Bali and the other five super priority destinations,” he explained.

According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data, Bali’s economy grew by 8.09 percent in the third quarter of 2022, or from July to September, compared to the same period in 2021.

Bali’s economy grew by 3.04 percent year on year in the second quarter of 2022, compared to 1.46 percent in the first quarter of 2022. (YoY).

Bali’s economy is expected to grow by 5% between October and December 2022, according to Bank Indonesia.
