The Japanese foreign ministry stated in a statement that Japan respects all parties’ efforts in Yemen, as well as the vital responsibilities that regional nations, particularly the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman, have played in accomplishing the truce’s prolongation.

Japan reiterated its support for Mr. Hans Grundberg, the United Nations Secretary-Special General’s Envoy for Yemen, in his efforts to bring peace and stability to Yemen.

The statement reiterated that there is no military solution to the Yemeni problem, only a political solution based on dialogue among Yemenis.

According to the statement, “from this perspective, the Government of Japan earnestly hopes that this truce agreement will be honored by all parties, highways in Taiz and other governorates will be opened, and the parties will move in the talks toward attaining a sustainable peace in Yemen.”
