Jakarta – Moeldoko, the Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), emphasized the importance of food security in each region in order to meet the needs of the community in the face of a global food crisis.

“Each region in Indonesia must have food security so that it does not rely on supplies from other islands or regions,” he said in a statement issued here.

Moeldoko made the statement during a meeting with Manado State University Rector Prof. Dietje A. Katuuk and several officials from North Sulawesi universities at the Bina Graha Building here on Friday.

The former TNI commander compared the regional food security system to a military defense strategy, specifically the compartment system.

Due to the difficulty of bringing in logistics from outside the island, he believes large islands should be self-sufficient in food.

“This compartment system is very much in line with current agricultural and food security issues. Furthermore, we are currently in a difficult global situation. As a result, we must be able to meet our own needs “He confirmed.

Meanwhile, Manado State University officials met with Moeldoko to discuss the possibility of developing superior rice and corn varieties, as well as sorghum cultivation, in North Sulawesi.

Currently, the government is working to maintain the pillars of food security by ensuring a sufficient supply of high-quality foods at reasonable prices.

Thus, the KSP chief praised Manado State University’s initiative to develop superior food products.

“I am delighted that students can help support the food security program in their community. Invite and teach students and community members how to make organic fertilizers. It will be fantastic if students have numerous options for developing agricultural products “Moeldoko made a remark.
