RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has expressed its solidarity with Pakistan after floods in the Asian country killed hundreds of people and prompted the government to declare a state of emergency.
The Kingdom has expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery, according to a statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif requested international assistance in dealing with flood damage on Friday, as rescuers attempted to free thousands of people stranded in flood-ravaged areas. Sharif, who blamed the tragedy on the “horrors of climate change,” said the scale of the flooding was worse than in 2010, when nearly 2,000 people died.
