RIYADH – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday that he spoke by phone with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Soon later, Saudi Arabia issued a $400 million humanitarian aid package for Ukraine.

The crown prince stated that the Kingdom is prepared to continue mediation efforts and to support anything that contributes to de-escalation.

During the call, the president expressed gratitude to the crown prince and the Saudi prime minister for the Kingdom’s support for Ukraine’s territorial sovereignty.

Saudi Arabia recently voted in favor of a UN resolution rejecting Russia’s claim to four Ukrainian districts captured during the eight-month conflict.

Zelensky further stated that he and Prince Mohammed decided to keep in touch in order to free more prisoners of war.

As part of a prisoner exchange agreement between Russia and Ukraine, the crown prince facilitated the release of ten convicts from other countries last month.

The Ukrainian president also stated that he and the crown prince agreed on Saudi Arabia providing macro-financial aid to Ukraine.
