SIBU, 7 August — Sarawak is on track to achieve the RM12 billion income mark set in 2022 this year, according to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.

According to him, this could be seen in the state’s revenue up until June.

“InsyaAllah, our income is higher than what we reported last year.”

“I cannot reveal the exact figure to you yet, but the trend is that our revenue (this year) will exceed 2022.”

“That is, if we recorded RM12 billion last year, if I say it is more than RM12 billion this year, it is more than that figure.”

“This also means that we managed to increase our revenue, which we will give back to carry out development projects in our state,” Abang Johari said last night at a gathering with the Sibu community.

The gathering was held in conjunction with today’s (Monday) State Development Coordination Committee Meeting (SDCCM).

Abang Johari also urged community leaders to learn about the state government’s new initiatives.

He stated that Sarawak’s economy is growing well and is on its way to become a new economy under the Post Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

Among the strategies he mentioned were the introduction of the digital economy through technology, the identification of the strength of state resources, carbon trading, hydrogen generation, and climate change mitigation.

“We have implemented these policies that our community leaders must understand because otherwise they will be unaware of what is going on.”

“For example, on spectrum (invisible radio frequencies that transmit signals), we have authority over the land and what lies within the land under the Sarawak Land Code.”

“Who has control over the space above the land?” That is what we mean by “spectrum.” Spectrum is valuable because we now have WhatsApp and Instagram, both of which need signals. “We need to have control over the spectrum,” he said.
