Jakarta, Indonesia – The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia is working with South Korea to create environmentally friendly waste management technology.

This is one of the priorities of the ministry’s collaboration with Pusan National University in South Korea, which will be carried out through the construction of a center for cooperation on ecologically friendly marine technology.

“Reducing marine waste and plastic is relevant to one of the ministry’s blue economy policies, which includes cleaning the oceans with fishermen’s help.” “We call it the Love of the Sea program,” said Victor Gustaaf Manoppo, Director General of Marine Spatial Management, in an official statement issued here on Monday.

Manoppo stated that cooperation was also taken out in the development of technology in the two countries’ shipyards and maritime sectors.

This collaboration is the first step toward healthier seas by utilizing technology to reduce marine debris and plastic.

This endeavor will help to conserve the marine environment, make better use of marine resources, and meet national targets for reducing the volume of plastic waste.

Meanwhile, Pusan University President Jeong In Cha remarked that the Hydrogen Ship Technology Center is an example of an environmentally friendly ship that can collect and handle floating marine garbage.

“The Hydrogen Ship Technology Center is gaining national and international attention for promoting development projects and serving as an example of an environmentally friendly ship that collects and processes floating marine debris,” he said.

He stated that in the future, Pusan National University (PNU) will make various efforts to strengthen international joint research in the fields of engineering, environment, and marine.

The PNU will also organize student exchanges and collaborate on the development of maritime and environmental policy.

He is optimistic that South Korea and Indonesia can maintain a partnership that will benefit the world community in the future, such as by resolving the marine debris problem.
