The Indonesian Movement Association (PPI) expressed support, while urging that the KPU and Bawaslu continue to work within the corridors of the rules of the game as independent and free institutions and intervention from any institution or party.

Through a statement of attitude issued in Jakarta, Wednesday (12/13/2022), PPI Presidium Andy Soebjakto Molanggato and PPI
Secretary General SJ Arifin, delivered a response regarding the political situation related to the election stages.

“In relation to the ongoing election process and stages and the subsequent stages to be held, the Indonesian Movement Association (PPI) needs to express its views. First, that the holding of democratic elections requires the support and involvement of
all stakeholders, so as to build positive and constructive synergies,” the statement said.

Second, in a healthy democratic tradition, respect and trust in the election organizers (KPU and Bawaslu) is important. Because it is those parties who are given the task and mandate to organize a democratic political contestation called elections.

Third, therefore it takes courage to give appreciation for the work of KPU and Bawaslu so far, including in the ongoing administrative verification and factual verification process, as well as the next stages until the completion of its implementation later in 2024.

Fourth, support and urge the KPU and Bawaslu to continue to work within the corridors of the rules of the game as independent and free institutions and intervention from any institution or party. The independence of the KPU and Bawaslu in working and determining the results at each stage is to ensure the orderly implementation of elections and the certainty of the results.

Fifth, urge all relevant parties not to exert pressure and intervention on the KPU and Bawaslu and drag the KPU and Bawaslu into a political scenario that comes out of the principle of independence.

“Once again, respect and trust in the KPU and Bawaslu is very important for the success of the 2024 elections, both in terms of the process and the results for improving the quality of democracy in Indonesia,” emphasized the PPI statement. (*)
